Curse of an Artist
Curse of an Artist
Curse of an Artist was by far my most difficult work I have completed to this day. Over 300 hours of work this 3ft by 2ft piece was created originally as a gift to my mother but became something much more as it was part of my thesis. This piece was to showcase my moms most prized possession, a little wind up tweedy bird cage that used to be owned by her grandmother. It symbolizes a family connection and what objects we hold close to our hearts.
Through my time creating this painting I began resenting it and what it made me feel. It soon became an outlet for me, a place where I could reflect on the generational trauma that myself and many more people experience. It now not only symbolizes what my mother loves dearly but also the traumas that families can endure through one another.
